My journey started when I was 48 years old, overweight and unhealthy. Today at 51 years old I am fitter and happier than I have ever been. I am in control of my life and my health. With the support of my personal trainer I have lost approx 30 kilos. I achieved this through consistency, goal setting, strength and cardio training. The day I got the courage to ask for help at the gym changed my life. I now have the skills to achieve whatever I want. Having reached my goal weight my focus is now on being as fit and healthy as I can. Each time I train I feel incredible. Life is really there to be lived and enjoyed. Sandra D
I have trained with Fiona at various times over the past 18 months. Fiona is able to push me further then I am able to push myself. Training with Fiona noticeable increases my strength and fitness within weeks. I consider myself to be reasonably self discipline when it comes to exercise, and I always try and push myself hard, but after a session with Fiona, I am reminded of what my body is capable of, and what else I should be doing. Regardless of this, I can never train myself the way Fiona does, nor can I get the same results on my own. Having that said, she knows when to pull me back when I have given it my all.
Fiona is a very approachable and personable personal trainer. She really does listen to what your goals are and is able to design a program to assist in achieving those goals. She always explains what each exercise is, and what it's working in your body. When I train with Fiona, she is focussed solely on me, which means she corrects my technique immediately - I believe this has been fundamental in preventing an injury, particularly if the exercise I'm doing is new.
Fiona is extremely professional and truly believes in what she does. She has an extensive knowledge of diet and personal training, which she is able to impart during a session. She is always positive in her approach, and has a "can do attitude". Each person she trains is important to her, and I think that is why she is a popular trainer in the gym. When Fiona trains me, I feel like she really is trying to get me to be the best I can be, and for that reason I always try my hardest for her. Despite being outside of my comfort zone during training with Fiona, I always feel "really good" after a workout with her, and I always walk away learning something new. Sue M

a client member of Alive Health &
Fitness in Canberra for over five years, I have now been training with
personal trainer Fiona Friend for more than a year.
I’m
a professional woman in my early 60s, running my own very busy national/international
consultancy firm. Training at the
gym each week is part of my intention of staying as active, fit, and healthy as
possible for the next decades of my life during the natural transition through
old age.
Before
making the decision to select Fiona as my personal trainer, I quietly watched
her training a variety of other clients in the gym for more than twelve months,
observing how she related to clients of differing ages and capacities, what her
training regimes were, and how she led each individual along a path toward
achieving varied goals.
During
the past year of training with her, I couldn’t have been more delighted with
the training process Fiona has formulated for me! Her professionalism and intelligence are always apparent: she comes to each of our sessions
well-prepared with a written regime, has thought carefully about the outcomes
of our last training session, and often has devised new ways of approaching
particular exercises or movements which match my capacities and limitations,
always leading on towards significant increases in my strength, balance, core
muscles, and capacity to function well in daily life. I have been so encouraged by the outcomes that I now engage
Fiona for two sessions each week, both of which are very worthwhile.
Fiona
is passionate about physical training and is always full of energy and great
good humour in her approach to her clients. The goals which she devises with her clients are not just
short-term responses to quick suggestions or whims that they express, but
rather are based on her long-term understanding of her quiet role in aiding
people to live full lives and to maintain and enhance their precious health.
I
was diagnosed with cancer seven years ago and am now in remission, but have a
number of complications with inherited joint disease and other physical
limitations. Fiona acknowledges
those limitations in an understated way and figures out ways to move my
strength-training forward without causing injury or undue strain. This in turn increases my confidence
about what is possible—training with her feels like a wonderful partnership!
I
